Case Study
Project Profiles
This project is located on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The University needed a new bus fueling facility with more storage capacity, high-flow dispensers and the ability to store and dispense DEF. Their fleet of buses will be expanded and old buses replaced with new buses that have SCR engine technology.
The Young Group, Inc. (Johns Creek, Georgia) was selected to design the new fueling facility for the university. Jim Young, president of The Young Group said “there is only one choice for storage on this project, and that is Xerxes.” The purchase of the tanks and the installation was handled by McKinney Petroleum Equipment in Mobile, Alabama.
The old fueling complex had one 12,000-gallon aboveground tank. The university took that tank and is now using it for an emergency generator on a different part of the campus. The new facility will employ two Xerxes by Shawcor tanks: one 10′-diameter, 20,000-gallon double wall tank for diesel and one 8′-diameter, 8,000-gallon double-wall tank for DEF. The facility will fuel the bus fleet and some of the larger service vehicles.
